Finding peace in the chaos

Finding peace in the chaos

Finding peace in the chaos isn’t always easy, but some days it is essential. Today was one of those days. Today, the world seemed crazy with the pandemic and recent racial injustices sparking internet and personal conversations. My neighborhood, normally tranquil during the day, was a-buzz with noisy home projects. I felt scattered and untethered,…

Midlife women have grit & grace

Yes, I think Midlife women have grit and grace! Sandwiched in the middle of two, three or more generations, midlife women navigate their journey with the courage, grace and wisdom that comes from a lifetime of building character.  Grit: “courage and resolve; strength of character.” The Oxford dictionary Doing research for the Midlife Timeout blog…

Spring time, pandemic recovery and soul nurture move slow

Spring time, pandemic recovery and soul nurture move slow, much slower than most of us would hope. Does your soul crave color, calm and connection? And yet, at the same time, does your heart grow weary and impatient with the slow process? Across the nation, many states are ever-so-slightly loosening restrictions and opening up our…

Some days I want to pull the Lazy Elaine card

Sometimes I am tired, overwhelmed, and just want to “pull the Lazy Elaine card.” But what sounds like a good idea in the short-term, isn’t always so good for me. Last Saturday, I pulled the card. It was -10 degrees fahrenheit and my husband wanted to go for our usual morning walk with the dog….

Simple holiday self care

Simple holiday self care may not be the first thing you think of as you head into this festive season — but imagine what it would be like to put yourself at the top of your list. The Thanksgiving turkey hits the oven this week, the absolute latest it could be in the month (with…

Fall colors are definitely popping out! Enjoyed a nice walk along the coastal trail from Point Woronzof today. The Panama Canal is a major engineering feat and a must-see for engineers — and anyone else interested in transportation, shipping and seeing the world! Traveling through the locks took us 12 hours — far less than going all the way around South America! 🛳️🚢⛴️ Oh, 2024, how wild you’ve been! I have to jump way back to January to share some of my favorite grandma moments — and the arrival of Kayleigh Jane Henschen, joining big brother Jay Wolf. So much fun being with the family in Korea to share these special days. 🥰 Goodbyes are hard, little brother. I wanted to give you one last hug but God didn’t want you to suffer and I agree, though my heart hurts. You knew you were loved so very much! Fly on in peace! We’ll see you in paradise! Say hi to dad and all who’ve gone before. I love you! ❤️‍🩹 Merry Christmas and best wishes for a very happy new year! We’re grateful for all of our friends and family near and far! 🎄 Day 19: Sahagun to El Burgo Ranero, 12 miles. It was a strange day from the start. By breakfast, it was pouring rain, not expected to let up until 11am or noon. Many set out in the rain, but we opted to hunker down in our room and get a later start.
